VIETNAM RICE MARKET UPDATE - Nov 2026

Rice Prices Rise as Export Demand Picks Up

Rice Prices Rise as Export Demand Picks Up

Vietnam’s rice market is gaining momentum again, with both domestic and export prices moving upward. Stronger buying interest from key markets, combined with limited domestic supply, is supporting the recent price increase.

Domestic Market Highlights

In the Mekong Delta, rice material prices increased by VND 100–300/kg compared with the previous week.

Key developments include:

- IR 504 and CL 555 rice materials: VND 8,950–9,100/kg.
- Fragrant broken rice: VND 9,600–9,800/kg.
- Fresh Dai Thom 8 paddy: VND 6,300–6,500/kg.
- Fresh OM 18 paddy: VND 6,400–6,600/kg.

Fragrant rice and glutinous rice have seen particularly strong gains in recent weeks, with prices increasing by approximately USD 30–40 per ton.

Vietnam’s Export Rice Prices

According to market quotations from the Vietnam Food Association, export prices for Vietnamese rice are currently as follows:

- 5% broken white rice: USD 423–427/MT.
- 5% broken fragrant rice: USD 470–475/MT.
- Jasmine rice: USD 518–522/MT.

For comparison, Thai 5% broken white rice is quoted at USD 474–478/MT, while Pakistani rice stands at USD 408–412/MT. Indian 5% broken white rice remains more competitively priced at USD 384–388/MT.

What Is Driving the Market?

Several factors are contributing to the recent upward trend:

- Stronger import demand: Buyers from the Philippines, China, and African markets are returning, increasing purchasing activity.
- Limited domestic supply: The gap between harvesting seasons is restricting the availability of paddy in the Mekong Delta.
- Weather-related risks: Concerns over potential El Niño conditions, drought, and saltwater intrusion could affect future rice production across Asia.

China’s increased purchases of glutinous rice and lower-grade rice for animal feed are also supporting demand for certain product segments.

Competition in the Philippine Market

The Philippines imported approximately 4.07 million tons of rice from January to September 2026, up 24% year-on-year.

Vietnam remained its leading supplier, shipping around 2.73 million tons. However, Vietnam’s market share declined to approximately 67%, as Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Cambodia expanded their exports to the country.

Market Outlook

Rice prices may remain firm in the coming months as import demand recovers and supply conditions tighten. However, competition among major exporting countries will remain an important factor influencing Vietnam’s export performance.

For rice importers and traders, monitoring price movements, supply availability, and purchasing schedules will be essential when planning upcoming shipments.

What is your outlook for Vietnam’s rice export prices in the coming months? Do you expect prices to continue rising, or will stronger competition put pressure on the market?
